VBS wrap up
Toddlers are so much fun. Being part of the two and three year old class has been much better than I thought it would be. Figured I would have pulled all of my hair out by now.
Nope. Other than the whiny, selfish moments that come to all kids (and adults too!), it has been great. I know they're too young to understand the stories and songs. They will never remember making the crafts or playing the games.
But I will remember. I will remember for Trey, and I will remember that it is actually possible for me to talk to someone about Jesus. Why can't I do this with adults?? Through being physically drained and sleep-deprived, the Lord is granting me a spiritual mountaintop right now.
Here are some things I'm thankful for this week:
- Bubbles, and anyone who invented anything related to them. Specifically the long wand that makes lots of big bubbles. The way the bubbles make formerly-ADD/destructive children remain in one place for a few minutes and smile. The way they make formerly-shy children run around in circles for a few minutes and smile.
- Freeze pops. The long, skinny kind. I am a little obsessed with these things anyway, and was overjoyed to share them with the kids.
- Cleanup wipes. Refer to previous item. Enough said.
- That my child is not too shy to bless his food out loud, even among unfamiliar people. Trey has been the only one willing to say the blessing over the cookies and Kool-aid for the class this week. I know, I'm bragging. His prayers are funny - I'll share more about that in another post.
- That my child went from extremely whiny on day one to NO WHINES by day four. Even with me in sight! I know it's probably not a breakthrough, but it has been the difference between a stressful and enjoyable week for me.
- My bed. Our time has been short. One day we'll catch up.
Tonight night is family night, where the kids will get up onstage in front of hundreds of parents and (hopefully) sing their little hearts out. They have done better when it was just our class and not all the preschool classes combined, so we'll see how that goes. They'll look cute, anyway.
Here are a few glimpses of Trey's time at VBS:
The "pole", a long bamboo stalk that served to keep all the kids together on our long trek to the playground each night.

Music time with Giga. Trey was all about the dancing at first, but as the week went on, he tried to do more of the motions. Our favorites: "Zaccheus" and "Deep and Wide".

Craft time! I think we played with stickers every night - kids just love stickers! Add that to the list of things I'm thankful for.

The classic, timeless VBS tradition of cookies and Kool-aid. Praise the Lord, I had cookies that Trey could eat and he never made an effort to grab another kid's snack. Other than not getting his cookies from the platter like everyone else, Trey got to be a normal kid at snack time.

And every child's favorite activity this week, the playground! As the week went on we spent more and more time out here, even moving some things around on our schedule to stay longer. And it was so much fun. Thank you, God, for no injuries!
