VBS, day one
This week is brought to you by the word "tired". Pretty bad to already be tired while going into a week where you know you'll be on your feet constantly and maybe get 5 hours of sleep each night. But it's a good tired. Sleep is overrated anyway. I don't really believe that, of course - just trying to be a good sport.
Vacation Bible School began last night at church. Brandon has taken over his annual role as media guru, and is taking pictures and video for the big presentation on family night. Hopefully we can share some pictures throughout the week.
And I am teaching the 2's and 3's. I debated about this for a long time before volunteering. Trey did not enjoy VBS much last year, crying and crying whenever the grandmas or I left him in the nursery. I really wanted him to enjoy it this year, and figured that might be more likely with me around and available to him.
The kicker, and the reason Brandon chided me for taking the role I have, is that Trey is a bit obstinate around me (sense the sarcasm). Whiny, rebellious, whiny. Did I mention whiny? Who knows why, except that he knows he can get away with it because my discipline of him is just sad.
Well, at any rate, it was a good night overall. We did have some whining. But we had cute moments as well, with all the kids singing "Jesus loves me" to the top of their lungs and several of them dancing all around the sanctuary. The VBS theme is Australia, and at one point we had 9 toddlers jumping around the room like kangaroos. That was really neat.
Another funny moment came at story time - in preparing the story and everything else we did, I planned for a Trey attention span, maybe 90 seconds. Turns out that some kids will sit for longer than that. Who knew??? So some of them would just be getting settled when I finished the story. Might need to rethink the plan.
Riding home last night, we didn't hear from Trey for a few minutes. I called to him to see if he had gone to sleep. No answer. Brandon turned around to check on him, and seeing him awake, said, "What are you doing, bud?" Trey said, "Takin' a nap!"
It's all good. More to come soon.
