Pointless cold
We haven't taken any pictures of Trey this week, and he's not really doing anything new other than working on all the words he knows. So to fill the blog void, I suppose a selfish rant will have to do.
I have the fondest memories, mostly from my elementary school days, of waking up on a random winter morning to a white world outside my window - and no school! These were the days before I watched the weather, so every time it snowed, it was the most wonderful surprise.
And still, even as I got older, it was so great to have a snow day whether I knew it was coming or not. Playing in the snow is ageless. Not that I was a cool teenager to begin with, but even if I had been I still would have donned my puffy snow suit and built snowmen, forts, had snowball fights. It's just what you do.
I know I'm not really old, but in the good old days when I was in school, we used to have to go to school during Easter break because of all the snow days we missed.
Fast forward to now. We've got this irritating cycle going on that has been around the past couple of years. Whenever we have precipitation in the winter, it is at least 40 degrees. Whenever it is cold, the weather is sunny. Take today and tomorrow. Not a cloud in the sky, with temps today plummeting into the teens, and staying that way through Saturday. What in the WORLD is that about??
We did have one snow last year that came thisclose to covering the tips of the grass in our yard. And other than a brief snow shower this year, that is the only snow Trey has ever seen. How sad!
So I wouldn't mind having some snow. Not ice, which we are prone to get now and then. Good, thick, packing snow so the three of us can go outside and make snow angels. Ones you can't see the grass and mud under. Snow that will last a few days so we can turn the fire on, snuggle under a big fleece blanket, and eat vegetable soup. Ooh, and maybe play a board game!!!
OK, now that the rant is over, I must acknowledge that the One I am whining to is God, as He controls the weather. Whining is no good; there are more important issues. And so I will shut my mouth.

1. I so agree about the wintery weather surprises at a kid!! I LOVED snowdays! How fun!
2. What is your definition of 'cool?' When I think back to my high school days, you may not have been the definition of 'cool' in the eyes of the pot smokers, slackers, or preppy partyers...but you were one of the 'coolest' people in my book. You stood for Jesus when no one else did. You stood for what you believed, and you didn't sway to the left or right to fit in. And when I think back to my friends who left lasting impacts in my life...you are at the top of the list. Now that's 'Cool."
3. I totally agree...why in the world does it rain for 3 days while its in the 50s but no clouds when its bitter stinkin cold. Not cool.
4. Everyone knows that when it snows, you bundle up and go make a snowman...its just what you DO!
