All things Trey

Figured it was time for a big ol' Trey update. He is now eighteen months - who can believe that. And he is a such a joy. Sweet, funny, strong-willed. Here is some of what we've been up to lately.

Arts
Trey loves to color. He has finally gone from banging the crayons on paper to dragging them back and forth. The fascination is short-lived though, and once he loses interest in the crayons, he happily tears his masterpieces into pieces.

Trey is a natural born dancer. We have three moves - bouncing, running in place, and the twist. All self-taught also. Granddad, the southern Baptist preacher, can only shake his head when the Sunday school teachers tell him that the minute they turn on the Veggie Tales CD, Trey starts dancing all over the room.

Singing is very popular too, only now we have an actual English song.

Sports
This kid loves basketball. We so enjoy going to Brandon's team's games. Trey either sits there enthralled watching the game, plays with a basketball we "borrow" and keep in the stands with us, or fusses to get out on the court and play with the guys.

The Christmas basketball goal is still very popular. Unfortunately the soot is still in the air in the basement, which we found out last night when Trey had another asthma attack. So I brought the goal upstairs for him.

Brandon has been working with Trey on proper shooting form.

Trey has also been practicing his jumping. If you can't tell, he's saying "jump" here.

Talking and learning
Trey's vocabulary has expanded a lot lately. He says "hi" and "bye bye" without being prompted now, and knows the words for several objects and actions. Some of these words have turned into obsessions. For example, "vacuum" (Trey pronounces "dapa" - don't ask): he asks to vacuum every day. And "moon" (Trey pronounces "moo"): he gets very angry when he can't see the moon, because of daylight, clouds, anything.

Trey got some foam letters for Christmas, and since then he has learned to identify E, X, T, usually D, and the number 2. Of course this is not perfect, as F and I are also called E, K is also called X, and all the other letters are called T. Every number is 2. Still, we're learning.

Spiritual
Trey has recently started saying his own blessing, though it usually occurs in the middle of the meal. He will bow his head as far as it can go, talk to himself, then say "Amma" and raise his head up. This is very encouraging to us, as we pray daily for wisdom to raise Trey to know Christ. We know that the Lord will only be as real to Trey as He is to us.

Disposition
Pure energy. Trey rarely walks anywhere - he is most often in full speed run. He doesn't sit still for long either, preferring to explore and climb for most of the day.

Trey is typically a happy kid, though when he doesn't get his way, he lets us know about it. So we deal with the occasional tantrum.

But otherwise, he is a jolly boy as he was when he was a baby. Smiles and laughs are plentiful, and serve as a daily reminder of the abundant joy found in the blessings of the Lord.
