Musical

We love music in this house. Both Brandon and I were raised in families that loved music, and it has carried through. We both spent our childhood and teen years playing the piano. Brandon still plays occasionally around the house, and I play for church service once a month. Though the skill has deteriorated some with lack of practice time, what a blessing the Lord has given us to make music.

We also enjoy singing, though from my mouth it doesn't always sound great. But that won't stop me! Songs about the Lord are my avenue to worship. Music is the quickest, easiest, strongest way that I can feel the presence of God. Have you heard these??

- "Motions" by Matthew West
- "You are Everything" by Matthew West
- "Forgiven and Loved" by Jimmy Needham
- "My Deliverer" by Mandisa
- "The Only Thing Good In Me" by Michael English

And these are just the newest in my long line of favorites. The music inspires me, convicts me, reminds me of who He is and who I am in Him. Psalms for the 21st century.

So it seems our love of music has been passed on to Trey. I sang almost constantly while I was pregnant with him - it just felt like a great way to connect with him. Then in the first part of his life, singing was about the only way to soothe him and get him to go to sleep. We have the sweetest memories of Trey's grandparents and Aunt Nene singing to him. In particular I remember my Dad, Trey's Papa, holding Trey's hand in the backseat of the car, singing "You are My Sunshine".

Anyway, appropriately enough, Trey loves to sing now. He's got "Jesus Loves Me" and the alphabet song down pat and can join in with us on plenty of other Bible and kid songs. On occasion he'll sing to Doggie and Quackers, his best stuffed friends, and he typically sings himself to sleep at bedtime.

Brandon took this video of Trey yesterday. I know we've posted him singing EIEIO before, but now he's started singing the verses to "Old MacDonald". Or actually just one line of one verse. In case you can't make it out, here he's singing "On that farm he had a cow, EIEIO"...over and over.

And how I wish I had a video of this...Trey enjoys watching Noggin, and he is a die-hard Moose and Zee fan. Since Moose and Zee come on at :22 and :52 every hour, we only watch TV a little bit and at those specific times. There is a music video that comes on every once in a while for the JumpArounds, and the song is called "Gogo-a-gogo". Trey goes nuts at this one, crazy dancing all around the living room singing, "Go GO!!" It's actually a pretty neat song and I usually end up singing and dancing with him.

Anyway, there's my mommy-musing for the day. We'll have some seriously exciting stuff to blog on this weekend as my sister is graduating from college!! Cameras aren't allowed during the ceremony, but hopefully if the college officials don't steal our camera, we will have some good post-ceremony and pig roast celebration pics. Yay Whitney!
