Memorial Day weekend

As it seems to every year, our Memorial Day weekend involved a ton of work around the house. On Saturday we focused on the garden and the grounds. After a trip to a local farm store, we hoed and tilled, planted and replanted veggies - corn, green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, and squash. Here is the finished product. It looks better than it has in several years.

Brandon is doing an experiment this summer - we have seen on TV where you can grow tomatoes upside down. Thought it was worth a try.

Brandon weed-eated (is that a word?) and planted grass, while I weeded flower beds and planted some flowers. And most of this labor occurred during Trey's afternoon nap.

Sunday found us barely able to move and so we took the day of rest command literally. Naps all around!!

On to Monday's work, which I have dubbed "Extreme Makeover: Porch Edition". We have a half-enclosed carport with louvered glass windows. They are old and have been rusted in whatever position they were in - some open, some shut. Every spring the pollen gets blown in and takes up residence on the windows, walls, floor...

With a cookout planned for Monday evening, it was time to clean the porch. Bless my husband's heart, by hand he cleaned two hundred and twenty-one glass panels AFTER applying his genius and figuring out how to get the windows to open and shut again. Woo hoo!

I scrubbed the chair cushions with carpet cleaner and cleaned the grill, we hosed off the porch and swept pollen-yellow water out into the driveway. SOOOO glad I don't have a before picture to show you, but here's the after:

And this allowed us to have a CLEAN, relaxed OUTDOOR cookout with our families. Brandon worked his magic on the grill, and we all had a great time. Trey was as spoiled as ever, surrounded by seven people who all think he hung the moon. It was a full, great weekend, and we are tired!
