Really, is everyone stupid or am I that smart?
I was reading some news items on the Internet today at lunch. I saw a headline that read something to the fact that "teens that watch sexy TV shows were more likely to become pregnant"..........REALLY? There was a quote in the article that the originator of the study was surprised by the results.............REALLY?
Here some unbelievable facts about this:
1. Money was spent on this survey when anyone with a brain could have confirmed this. They could have taken the money they spent on it, given it to me, and I could have told them this. It amazes me that so many people are just blind to the obvious.
2. The teens that watch these shows were twice....TWICE as likely to become pregnant.
3. The survey was call "groundbreaking"..........REALLY?
4. "TV-watching was strongly connected with teen pregnancy even when other factors were considered, including grades, family structure and parents' education level." This statement proves that it only takes a little sin to ruin what can otherwise be a person that lives a good life.
5. Some of the shows that were mentioned as targets of the study were very popular shows that come on at normal viewing hours. Friends, That 70's show, and Sex in the City were all mentioned. Sadly, these are show that I hear many Christians talk about watching regularly.
The sad thing about all of this is that I would think this is common sense. If you are putting crap in, you're going to get crap out, plain and simple. The Bible warns of certain activities and how they are NOT to be part of our lifestyle. We may not be directly involved in many of these activities (drinking, sexual activity, homosexuality and others) but if we are watching movies/TV shows that portray them, or even listen to music about them, aren't we really still taking part?
There has been a creeping tolerance in the church today. Many are starting to believe that there is a "gray area" in life. Jesus did not seem to agree with that stating that you are either for Him or against Him. That's cut and dry. Living a great life, but dabbling in these sins through our TV viewing habits allows satan an open door to reach in and cause problems.
James 1:5 says
"If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God"
If you are not sure about an activity, ask God. He will make it plain to you, but we must realize that we may not get the answer we want.
