Our first real conversation

A little background: Trey is a bit of a late talker (we missed all of the talking milestones at his last checkup). Over the last month or so, though, he has been picking up all sorts of words. And not only the words themselves, but actually pointing at an object and saying its name. Which is very exciting.

Trey has known "no" for a while now, and will use it in triplicate whenever we offer him something he doesn't want. "No, no, no." He has just recently learned yes, and I wan't sure he knew what it meant until...

Mama: C'mon Trey, it's time for your bath.

Trey: No, no, no.

Mama: No? But you like to take a bath. You can play with the duck. You want to play with the duck?

Trey: Yeah.

Woo hoo! That was the neatest thing, the first real exchange we've ever had. I am overjoyed at the prospect of being able to talk back and forth with my son!

A few other cute things
Trey has always been pretty vocal (read loud), but lately when he really wants to get our attention, he will bend his knees and lean forward a little as if to project his voice even farther. This stance applies to each of the following stories.

I was in the kitchen rinsing some dishes and Trey runs around the corner from his room. He bends forward, yells something in gibberish, and motions for me to come to his room. Once we get there, he points and grunts to a basket of photo albums on top of his bookshelf. I got that down for him, he sat in the floor, and pointed and grunted toward the door. Which seemed to mean, "OK, I'm done with you now. Leave." So I left.

Friday morning just after Trey got up, we walked into the kitchen. He saw the door of our bedroom pulled almost shut, and pointed and grunted at it. I said, "Trey, Daddy's still sleeping. We'll wait about 15 more minutes and then go wake him up." Trey walks toward the bedroom door, pushes it open so hard it bangs very loudly against the wall, bends forward and yells at the top of his lungs, "GAH GAH!" (Get up, apparently.) So Brandon got up, laughing.

Oh we're having a blast! Praise the Lord!

That is so exciting! I'm amazed by him and how he's growing. Seems like just yesterday I was "sleeping" on a bench in the hospital.
