Vacation: Mama's post
Since I stole Brandon's sports camp post earlier, we've decided to each post our own accounts of our trip to the beach. I can't resist a teaser, though: later this week Brandon will tell you a shark story.
Last week was vacation, and it was fabulous. This was an old-fashioned family vacation, ones like we used to take when I was a kid. Two condos full of people - by the end of the week we had 14 people total. What a great time spent together, and praise the Lord, I only touched a computer once in 9 days!
The week was spent doing all our favorite things. Swimming, laying on the beach, reading, eating, shopping, playing putt-putt, eating, riding go-carts, Brandon and Ashley date night (first date in many, many months), and eating. Not overeating, but delicious restaurant eating every day, and Hot Stacks pancakes for breakfast!
We weren't sure how Trey would do with the beach, with sand and waves in the ocean. His feet hit the sand the first time, he pointed at the ocean and grunted, then took off toward it. No fear, walked right into the water. It was great. He loved the sand too. Loved tearing down any castles we attempted to build, loved grabbing handfuls to throw. Every morning when he woke up, Trey would beat on the balcony door facing the ocean, so anxious to get there. And once there, we walked and walked and walked, everyone in the family taking turns. The boy does not sit still. He also enjoyed chasing the birds and trying to eat sea shells.

Trey got to spend some time this week with his cousin Will. Trey has just recently become interested in other babies (he showed two "stranger" babies at the beach where their noses were). But we had some trouble synchronizing Trey's and Will's naps. And Will wasn't as thrilled with the ocean as Trey was. But they were able to play some inside the condos and in the kiddie pool.

Aunt Whitney gave Trey his first guitar lesson. Trey loves music and dancing. He plays little songs for us on the piano at home all the time, and will occasionally drift in and out of sleep singing in the middle of the night.

Here we are at the NASCAR cafe, and Pawpaw takes a minute to show Trey a real race car.

Aunt Whitney helped Trey with a racecar game inside the cafe, and then Trey got to ride the Batmobile and Flintstone car all by himself in the speed park. Pawpaw was very disappointed that Trey couldn't ride in the big go carts with him. About 20 pounds light.

After a tough night of racing, all Trey wanted to do was go to sleep on Pawpaw's shoulder.

And just to prove that I actually was there, I asked Brandon to take one pic of me with my boy. This is the only drawback of being the family photographer...

Finally, we headed home. Brandon was mortified that we ended up listening to Trey's "Turkey in the Straw" CD about 5 times through, and Trey entertained himself by getting up close and personal with his feet. Then he conked out. What a trip!
