Just thinking

Sitting here praying for those in the path of Sandy. Thankful that we are mostly out of harm's way, but sad and burdened for those who will lose so much.

It is times like these when we are reminded of how small and helpless we are. Especially to consider that even the strongest winds, the most relentless waters, are a mere glimpse of the power of our God.

Makes me long for heaven. Big things like this. Or like the deep valley we were walking into at this time last year. Or like, you know, any given Tuesday. I want Jesus. The older I get, the tighter I cling to Romans 8.

Last Friday, I took the boys to Nana and Granddad's house for a photo session. The weather and overcast natural light could not have been better. The leaves could not have been more beautiful.

And two boys could not have behaved better. Yes, even Aden. I only had to dig him out from under the electric fence, which seems to have no effect on him, once. Trey was a great helper. We got some really good shots for Christmas cards and grandparent gifts. Not perfect - I'm no photographer, but good enough for free!

Anyway, an hour and 300 shots later, because I am the world's coolest mom (er, uh, not), I let them play in the leaves. In their good clothes. We live on the edge, I tell you. They absolutely loved it. And it was entirely therapeutic for me, to have a cool mom moment. They are few and far between.

Trey, the teacher.

Oh, the joy.

One of the two redeeming qualities of Halloween has been ripped from my grasp this year. Charlie Brown will air on TV as we are at church, freezing our fannies off, passing out hordes of candy. I cannot remember how long it has been since I've missed a holiday Charlie Brown.

The other redeeming quality of Halloween may not happen either. As of this moment, both boys are adamantly refusing to wear their costumes. Bleh.

But once Wednesday is past, let the games begin! I am so, so, so, so unbelievably excited about the holiday season this year. Last year was a wash. Now, it's time to rejoice. Do the happy dance. Reinforce the true meaning of Thanksgiving and Christmas to the boys. Hang twinkly lights in the kitchen!!

Pumpkin bread is on my schedule for the weekend. Our last weekend before basketball season begins. Bye bye, Daddy! And Lord have mercy on Mama.
