Drama weekend snippets
The last five days have been amazing. Exhausting. Overwhelming. Praise the Lord, He has done it again.
The body of Christ, over 200 people using talents we otherwise would never have known about, brought together in Him to share the Gospel with our community. Five days, seven shows, around 2200 people, most of whom were not from our church. What can be said? Praise the Lord.
There are so many stories of things we have witnessed, and if my eyes weren't being held open by toothpicks right now I'd share them all. But if I don't get a few of them out my heart may explode.
- Nothing like last minute. The drama started Wednesday night. On Tuesday night, it occurred to me that I was supposed to make a prelude CD to play while people were being seated.
Music brings me into the presence of God, and I cannot tell you how precious that time was, searching through my memory for songs about Jesus' death and resurrection, listening to each lyric and being reminded of His love.
Here is my Easter playlist, in case it might bless you as well.
"Communion" by Third Day
"Not Guilty" by Mandisa
"Completely Free" by Big Daddy Weave
"Sweetly Broken" by Jeremy Riddle
"Need No Other" by Todd Agnew
"At the Cross" by Hillsong
"The Glory of it All" by David Crowder
"Redeemer" by Nicole C. Mullen
"By His Wounds" by Mac Powell, Steven Curtis Chapman, Brian Littrell & Mark Hall
- On Saturday, one of Brandon's friends from high school came along with his church to see the drama. We hadn't seen him in forever. He was in our wedding, and is such a wonderful, special, Godly man.
But you know, back in the day, he and Brandon were just too cool for words. Jocks, played ball together, the kind that just walked around school nodding at people because they knew just how hot they were. (Sorry, honey. It's true though. I love you!)
The mention was made of having kids, and in a moment, both guys had whipped out their cell phones, sharing baby pictures. Hilarious. With age has come a whole new definition of coolness. And I prefer this one, thank you very much. Yes, that mental picture will make me smile for years to come.
- Because of my backstage work, about the only part of the drama I ever got to see well was the last minute and a half or so, when I snuck out to the back of the sanctuary. This was when the entire cast would come up on stage singing 'Reign, Jesus, Reign', and the resurrected Christ makes His appearance.
It never failed that by the end of that song, a few handfuls of audience members had their hands raised to heaven, some standing to their feet, others crying. It was so beautiful, and it had absolutely nothing to do with us. God used His own story to bless the people, and they were praising Him. If nothing else good comes from what we have done, we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God is receiving the glory for this.
- After Saturday night's performance, Trey and I walked into the sanctuary to find Brandon. The stage crew had set up the three crosses for the crucifixion scene to work on them.
Trey looked at the stage and said, "Jesus died on the cross."
I can't tell you what that did to me. It's been an emotional week anyway, so I just started crying and hugged him. I pray every day that God will be real to Trey and Baby Dolphin, that above all else they will know the Lord and His great love for them. And I know Trey doesn't understand what it means right now. But to hear those words, the truth of God come from the mouth of your child, touches your heart like nothing else can.
This is the best tired we have ever felt before. How could I ask for more?
