Walking on sunshine
Oh, the excitement of the school year's end. There's nothing like it to make you want to simultaneously melt into a puddle of relieved nothing on the floor and also paint half your face blue, raise your sword and scream, "FREEDOM!"
But as always, there was precious little learning and much fanfare to put a bookend on the year.
Both boys worked very hard to finish their Awana books this year. Aden is officially done with Sparks and next year will begin his T&T adventures. Trey is officially done with Awana and next year will move to youth group.
[Silence]
Youth. Group.
For the love, y'all, what is happening to my world?
Deep breath. I know I can't do this and yet I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me so I'm just gonna keep breathing.
Field day was ho hum fun, anticlimactic for being right slam in the middle of about eight straight days of solid rain. No obstacle courses, no water games, no running wild. Still better than book work, though.
Aden's year-end celebration was a really neat luau where the kiddos got to play and eat, then be awarded for their academic and behavioral accomplishments through the year. Oh how my heart soared with pride as Aden took home the Nerds Award for tech-savviness.
For dismissal on the last day of school, pre-K through fourth grade lined the hallways, clapping and cheering as the fifth graders strolled through one last time. They were all beaming - even Trey! - and I barely held it together.
How I love, love that both my boys achieved their goal of being on honor roll through the whole year. They really are great kids, through and through.
And at long last, we christened the pool on a storm-cloudy, hot and muggy day. What better thing to do when there is so much to rejoice over?
Come on, summer. I think we're ready for you now.
