Bathroom plans

So back in November I went very non-Ashley and quite impulsively decided to swap out the light fixture above our kitchen table.

Never mind my tremendous lack of electrical experience. Never mind that I could have easily broken or dropped or ruined both fixtures through the process, or even electrocuted myself or burned the house down. If those thoughts even occurred to me, apparently they didn't hold much weight as I put full blind trust in a bearded guy from YouTube and plowed through.

It's so pretty, y'all. And yes, of course, praise the Lord for not letting anything bad happen. But isn't it pretty??

Sometimes I just stop and stare at it. It sings to me of accomplishment and even a bit of self-worth.

But it does something else too. It makes me stop and stare at other things in the house, and just wonder. Hmm.

And now, years too late, I know exactly how Aden felt when he learned to walk. "Can I touch that? Yes, I can! Ooh, can I touch that? Yes, I can! I AM GOING TO TOUCH ALL THE THINGS!!"

The beauty of this longing I have to get my DIY-jonesing hands on lots of stuff in the house is that there really isn't any desperate situation going on anywhere. All my staring and wondering falls in the realm of nice-to-have aesthetics. And apparently my chandelier success has inspired a ginormous amount of confidence, because honestly at this point I feel like I can figure out how to do pretty much anything.

Which is kind of scary. But hey, I've got YouTube.

So if I have any set plans, right now I think I'd like to start with the smallest of rooms. The boys' bathroom. It's very small, gets cleaned the most because ew, and there's only so much damage I can do in here.

In no particular order, here's what might be on the table:

Painting or staining cabinets. I can't decide which one. If painting, I'd go with white but then would definitely want a different, maybe darker greige color on the walls. But I like the color of the walls now and think it would look good with a darker wood. The honey oak has got to go.

Adding cabinet hardware. Cabinets have been in the house for twelve years and we have never put pulls on the doors or drawers. Any of them, including kitchen. This should be fun.

Fixing the holes in the wall. See the wall stickers? Well, underneath the red helicopter are holes where a towel hanger used to live. There are more stickers near the toilet, masking holes where a TP holder used to live. The useless, decorative double towel rack on the long wall? It's hanging on by the skin of its teeth. We have a lot of trouble with stuff falling out of our walls. Which is why Command hooks are my shiny star. Anyway, I'd just like to go ahead and rip down the towel rack, patch all the holes, repaint of course, and then get (or maybe even make??) a big farmhousey text art piece for that wall.

Changing out the light fixture. It's right nineties.

Doing something about the mirror. Mirrors were one of the last things purchased during our remodel and we were flat outta cash. So enter this nine-dollar mirror from Lowes whose look is positively ruined by the little plastic pieces with visible screws holding it into place. Based on the fact that it has never fallen down, we can safely assume it is glued strongly to the drywall. From what I've read, rip down a glued mirror, goodbye drywall. Young House Love created a frame for just such a mirror, but they used all these fancy tools to do it. Surely there's a way. More thinking required here.

Those are the major bullets on my bathroom list. How and when I get to any of them, who knows. What I do know is that a certain kitchen chandelier has completely ruined my contentment at just dreaming about how things could look.

I'll keep you posted.
