Little adventures
My exploration season game is weak this year, y'all. I could easily point to the reasons. Or embrace humility and admit that sometimes I just can't be the mother I wish so much that I was.
So even though my heart really isn't in it and we've fallen behind a bit, I have tried to produce a few fall fun memories for the boys.
Aden was begging to spend some time at our church playground. Easy-peasy, blue eyes.
We decided to take a short hike into the woods behind the playground, and found a beautiful and serene outdoor sanctuary. How did I not know this was there? Breathtaking.
Trey was begging for a corn maze. The one near our house shut down. The next nearest one I knew of is a good ninety minutes away and expensive as heck. After digging some online, I found a small "farm" smack dab in the middle of Lynchburg, fairly close and fairly inexpensive. It was definitely kid-approved, as it consisted mainly of bounce houses. There were some pumpkins in bins to pick from, and after a short walk, a small corn maze with short and spindly corn. Which didn't stop us at all from getting lost a few times.
I did put some thought into our most recent adventure, as I've been spending my lunch breaks at work on the track, trying to walk off the pounds. And with every lap I always think, man, the boys would love to run on this track.
So I took them to work with me. On a Saturday, so it wasn't really work. We explored, hiked trails, walked and ran on the track, and the boys got to see my cubicle. Important stuff for little boys.
As we meandered our way through the campus, I tried to explain to the boys how much it meant for me to make memories with them there. So that while I was away from them during the weeks, I could remember our time there and feel closer to them. Which prompted my Aden to say,
"When you're gone I hate it so much that my life hurts."
Amen, babe.
Big memories from some little adventures.
