Festivities
Our Christmas was a flurry of activities, joy, and merriment. Aaaaand about a week of the flu.
We'll address that in a bit. But as for the festivities...
Christmastime for us is accompanied by the start of basketball season for Brandon's team. We are the anthill - the Golden Eagles' faithful fans, providing a vast majority of the noise in the gym. Trey always keeps a watchful eye on the score and stats. This year, Aden sports an ear warmer to every game. In an odd twist, the buzzer is too loud for him, and the ear warmer apparently helps. Either that or he thinks it looks cool.
The boys and I attended a kids' Christmas fun day at our church, which was crazy busy fun. I played super-mediocre photographer while the boys played in bouncy houses, watched a movie, and crafted Christmas presents for Brandon and me. A great, exhausting day.
We had the amazing privilege of riding in the Roanoke Parade with Poppop on the Polar Express float. Trey had, um, a bit of an attitude issue, but Aden, Poppop and I had a blast jingling our bells, waving and wishing Merry Christmas to the hundreds of people watching. So much fun!
Trey nearly made it through the school year, but missed his Christmas party day as the first to come down with the flu. But before that, he had a few Christmas-related class lessons and homework assignments. One afternoon, he went into his room to do his homework, and came out with this:
A gift not like what Santa brings. A gift of the Son of God, Jesus Christ our Savior, Christ the Lord. I love Christmas, God and Jesus the most.
That is what he turned in to his teacher at school, my precious boy who is not yet worried over sharing his faith. We are so proud of him and pray that his love for the Lord will continue growing. Praise God!
Aden's flu held off long enough for his Christmas party, where the families were beautifully serenaded.
Seems Aden worked things out well, as he got to stand next to his precious Presley. According to Presley's mom, Presley feels as strongly about Aden as he does about her. They were reluctant to let go, knowing Christmas break would mean two weeks apart!
With the flus in full swing, the boys and I missed the night of programs at church. Such a bummer, as that is one of my favorite traditions.
But by Christmas morning, we were (mostly) ready to party. What a warm and joyous feeling to have our loved ones all gathered under our roof, stuffing our faces with breakfast goodies, tissue paper and gift wrap flying. Chaotic and so beautiful, a great Christmas morning, and a wonderful celebration of Jesus' birthday.
