My Trey
seems to be over his fears of going to bed. This tapered away toward the end of the summer. Now, if he should wake up during the night, he cannot go back to sleep alone. But at least bedtime is no longer a battleground. And we're praying for it to stick. Pretty sure it was last year around this time that we thought we were past this.
is doing fantastically at school. When he takes his time and focuses, that is. In a rush, instructions do not get read and the handwriting is incomprehensible. But oh, when this boy applies himself, he can't be stopped. (And the handwriting is beautiful.) Trey has a curiosity and love of learning that we can only hope will last the rest of his life.
reads. Then reads some more, and then some more. Asks to read in his bed after devotions, and usually grabs a book immediately upon waking up in the morning. Trey has already surpassed his 2nd grade reading goal for the AR program, and has gotten into longer chapter books. Current favorite: the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series.
is working on learning piano. From me. I am a rotten teacher, with little consistency in timing of lessons (or my availability when he sits down to practice). He is still doing well for a beginner, and can play most pieces in his level 1A book. Of course, he has them memorized after hearing them a couple of times, hardly ever looking at the book. So he'll play by ear. Which means I'll only be able to take him but so far. So proud of my boy for playing piano!
will go to any and all lengths to not be noticed by anyone. Dressed up for Halloween only because he figured people would wonder about him if he was the only one not dressed up. Is positively dreading the second grade Christmas concert, which we can no longer allow him to opt out of. Participation is a big part of his music grade for the year. But...
is slowly discovering that God will help him overcome his fears. The anxiety nearly did him in, but Trey stepped up to the plate and, together with Aden, walked his Nana up the aisle at her and Granddad's 50th anniversary wedding/party. Walked her onto the stage, in front of close to 200 people. It was rough. But he did it!
loves painting. For our last adventure of Exploration Season this year, the boys and I went to a paint-your-own ceramics place for the first time ever. (No photos because that would ruin some Christmas gifts!) He had a blast, and is already begging to go back. Hmm. Maybe next time Trey and I will go by ourselves. Might be a bit less stressful.
plays football with a bunch of boys nearly every day at recess.
eats the same things for lunch every day. Every. Day.
has all of his grandparents wrapped around his little finger.
pays his brother for the opportunity to play by himself.
still whines and often breaks down when he doesn't get his way.
asks for more dinner very shortly after dinner is over.
can eat much more than what looks like would fit inside him.
has physical touch as a love language. Needs, needs those snuggles.
serves as our memory-assistant, schedule-keeper, and weatherman.
has his Mama's whole heart. I love you Trey!
