Short trips and a small victory
Never a dull moment. Well, I guess there are plenty of dull moments here on the old blog, since apparently I just can't handle a regular posting regime. But life behind the blog...never dull.
We've had our first bout with illness for the season. Poor Aden. A simple cold complicated drastically by severe reflux. Oh, the vomit. So. Much. Vomit. And sleep deprivation. Spreading in mild form to both Trey and me, sans vomit. We're all coming out of it, hacking all the way.
But before the sickness struck, the boys and I struck out on a downtown tour. Not the downtown of our town, since that consists of an old abandoned bank building, train tracks, and a dumpster. But the downtown of the next town over. To do a couple of things we never have before and one that we had.
We went back to the library. Yes, we did. Even after the disaster that was last time, over one year ago. Not sure what it was that made me think things would go better. Or if I even did. One of those "might as well" moments, I guess.
They were perfect.
We walked out, calmly and without the angry stares of everyone we were leaving behind, with ten books and a movie.
And herein lies the small victory. Those books have brought so much joy to the boys. They're due to be returned very soon, which means we'll get to see if library perfection is a lasting phenomenon.
That same afternoon, we went to see Mater. Mater (you know, like tuh-mater, but without the tuh) lives on the side of the road, on the lawn of a self-storage lot with a bunch of welded metal creations. Kind of strange, but also kind of a downtown landmark. One of those places where you drive by in the summer and see tourists pulled in, taking pictures.
Yeah, that was us. Yeah, we live around here. Judge away, just making memories.
And then, after the cough-til-you-puke marathon came and went, we ventured out again. This time to a farm only a few miles from the house. Got lost in a corn maze, map in hand. Gazed at a pond. Saw nineteen cats. Revealed where bacon comes from. Came across a huge old weathered barn and went nuts with the camera. Found orange and green pumpkins. So much fun.
Loving the fall!
