From the fog

And welcome to the longest I've ever gone without blogging. Or taking pictures. It's just sad, I tell you.

We've been living under a cloud for a little while, as wintertime illness-type blues settled in once again after a much-appreciated four or five week respite. Aden got his croupy croup back. And then...Brandon got pneumonia. Yeah.

The last ten days have been difficult on all of us. For me, this has been oh so much harder than the single-parenthood of basketball season. For then I only had two kids. Sick husband makes three. Just keeping it real. Love you babe.

So not much sleep lately, and positively no cohesive thoughts to post here. Cabin fever like mad. You know it's bad when the highlight of your day (and your kids' day) is to drive a mile to the dump. God even sent a train for us to watch, always a thrill for one Aden Harris.

Anyhoo, as for the blog, I figured it was past time, so tonight I busted out the camera to capture at least a couple of February pics for their timelines.

They are playing together now more than they ever have before. It's not always pleasant, as Trey is rather bossy. And at times quite rough on Aden. But they are capable of cooperating, and especially enjoy running and dancing together. Truth be told, these boys are aching for warm weather. They were made to be outside.

This sweet little smarty-pants has morphed into almost a friend, a companion and amazingly capable helper for me. School is going well, as always, and he wants more than anything just to hang out with his grandparents. All the time. Fiercely independent and has a mind like a steel trap.

Then there's Taz, who I am absolutely in love with, and whose sole purpose in life is to drive me up the walls. He is intensely curious, wanting to watch (and hopefully help with) everything I do. Which causes more problems than it solves, as he is just compelled to touch everything he sees. And he's not a gentle fellow.

The boys have a new obsession stemming from this super-cool Christmas present from Giga and Poppop - a talking puzzle of the United States. Trey can name and locate almost all of the states and has even learned some capitals. Aden is learning the pledge of allegiance and can name and locate a few. We love playing this puzzle.

It has spurred some discussion of a dream vacation that surely won't happen for another ten years, if at all. And if it does happen I'm going to need some serious tranquilizers. It's an RV excursion through parts of the midwest that will end in Houston, Texas (Trey's choice of destination) and bring us back through West Monroe, Louisiana.

Hey.

Yes, we are Duck Dynasty fans, and practically beside ourselves with excitement over the Season 3 premiere tomorrow night. Holy cow, I never knew I could love something so redneck, so much. Mama happy happy happy.

Aden is in his big boy bed these days, and it's fine. Just a technicality really, as he had long conquered the rails of his crib and came and went as he pleased anyway. Taking apart and storing the crib for the first time in five years was rough on me, to say the least. But the great blessing here is that we haven't had to give up the nap. Praise, praise the Lord, for He alone knows how desperately Aden's caretakers need that few hours to recharge.

So we're slowly coming out of the fog. Trying to get/stay healthy, chugging vitamin C, enjoying each other, gearing up for the Easter drama at church, memorizing scripture and walking as close to the Lord as we can. Keeping on keeping on.
