Snapshots
VBS was fun. Exhausting fun.
Trey pulled his all-too-familiar stunt of refusing to participate without a family member present, so with the rest of us otherwise occupied, poor Poppop had to neglect his other responsibilities and spend his evenings with seventeen four-year-olds, one of whom was an oft-scowling Trey.

Aden, though offended that his bedtime was ignored, was delighted over late-evening snacks. Pudding paint night was his favorite. He didn't do much painting, instead choosing to shovel fistfuls of pudding into his mouth.

Ah, memories.
Speaking of Aden and food, his meals are now consistently, significantly larger than Trey's. The money-saving addict in me cringes, as I know that with rising food costs and natural boy growth, it may be another 20 years before our grocery budget will decrease or even level off.

But that's OK. It's a blessing. We'll just have to find new creative ways to save. And have a bigger garden. And perhaps purchase some livestock. And maybe get second jobs.
CVSing could help some. This week I scored almost $50 worth of stuff for just over $3 out of pocket, with $10 ECB back. If only every week was like that. (It's not, by the way.)

Garden is doing well. Tomatoes and cukes have been slow, basically eat as you pick. Six good-lookin watermelons, several carrots gaining size, and seven gallons of green beans and 120-ish ears of corn, newly preserved. That besides what we've eaten straight from the garden. Praise the Lord!
Our very local produce has produced for us Aden's all-time favorite lunch, summer salads. Basically tossing together ham, plus any fruit or veggies that can be cubed. Easy as pie, and makes for a lovely presentation. Of course until it's all mooshed together and dripping down a bare-chested chunky monkey.

Trey's hair is getting darker. That not considered, the boy looks more and more like his Dad every day.

(See that yellow wall? See it?? Its time is short.)
I think it's safe to say the household ch-ch-changes are officially revving up now. A couple of things were done in the spring. We, and when I say we I mean Brandon, began demoition of our screened porch. Also had one of Brandon's former students come by and cut down seven or eight dead trees, which served only to enhance the spectacular view created by the forestry eradication on the land behind ours.

This past weekend we began the transformation of Trey's room from a former nursery to an official big-boy room. Step 1: full-size bed. If you know our kid, or have read this blog for any length of time, you understand beforehand how, er,nightmarish challenging Trey-transitions are, and therefore you won't judge us for dreading night one.
Well, color us surprised when he excitedly hopped right in and made nary a peep until close to 9:00 the next morning. Hooray!

Yes, the quilt is Pottery Barn. A bit indulgent, I know. But, oh, so pretty!! More changes are in store to finish off the big boy theme - more on that soon.
I have fallen head over heels in love with Aden's laugh. This boy is pure sunshine.
TTFN. More eye candy to come...
