Getting ready
What are we getting ready for?
A dry-erase calendar full of basketball games and holiday related events - in short, Christmas! The morning sickness has subsided a great deal, which means I can get excited about parties and dinners AND volunteer to cook a lot of food. Which I have done. And will continue to do for the rest of this month.
Basketball is in full force (three games this week!?!). Our weekends are swamped, kicking off this weekend with company and Trey's third annual Christmas program at church. Family gatherings, friend gatherings, Christmas plays, living nativity... Merriment all around!
I am almost done with gift-buying, which may be a record. I am almost done with Christmas cards - yet again, another record. Boy, it makes a huge difference having a child old enough to self-entertain for more than 3 minutes at a time. The house is decorated, though somewhat more low-key than in years past. Let's not get carried away.
And amid the hustle and bustle, headlines and the condition of this world continually remind me of how blessed we are, and how lost we would all be without a true, solid reason to celebrate. I love my Jesus so much, and am so thankful of the strange and beautiful way He chose to join us, and save us, so long ago.
What else are we getting ready for?
Big changes are coming for Trey in the form of a big boy bed! We have been really, really talking it up lately. And he's catching on - he gets very excited when we mention it.
We have the bed in the house, but the big day for setup is Monday, December 21. That begins a 2-week vacation from work for both Brandon and me, and we decided if we were going to lose sleep during the transition, that might be the best time to do it.
I'm nervous, and praying that Trey will adapt to this change as easily has he has everything else. And quickly. I'd rather not look like a zombie in all the family Christmas gathering snapshots. And Lord, how I hope and pray this does not mean the end of naptime. This may be my biggest fear.
Oh well. Regardless of how it goes or how long it takes, I can keep perspective and know he will learn. At least I hope I can keep perspective. Someone help me keep perspective!
