Stale

To best describe my blog-spiration of late, stale seems to be the best word. I keep thinking, I should put something on the blog. Of course we all know that not much would beat the last post. And to be honest, if that's excitement, bring on the stale!

So we'll just update a little here.

Speaking of certain slithery creatures, my dear Dad was kindhearted enough to tell me that the proper way to remove the snake would have been for me to trap its head with the scraper, pick it up (!) by the tail and snap it.

Yeah.

Thanks Dad. Insert full body shudders again.

Let's move on.

So fall is here, and if our schedules weren't full before, they are now. We worked together last week to fill out our brand new dry-erase calendar on the fridge, which at this point I'm not entirely sure how we lived without before. There might be six or seven days with nothing special written in. I'm tired just thinking about it. It's all good stuff though.

Trey is as wonderfully entertaining and challenging as ever. He has become especially musical lately, showing a lot of interest in playing the piano and singing so many songs. He'll sing along with us, and it's so sweet. Sometimes he'll sing along with me to "Baby Mine" at bedtime, evoking a tear or two.

Trey can now hold a genuine phone conversation, which is so neat when I'm at work and missing him like crazy. He's also been coming out with some funny lines.

"Don't get frustrated, try again."

"Mama! I poo-poo in floor! Come and see!" (Yes, he was telling the truth. Another of those funny-in-hindsight moments.)

"Now it's time to be quiet." (I was apparently singing when it wasn't time to sing.)

"Do you have a problem, Mama?" (Said in sincerity, not being smart.)

We're having fun.

I realized the other day that I had wanted to do a garden totals post. But to be honest, I didn't keep count near the end of the season, and we've already eaten some of what we got. Estimating, there were close to 200 ears of corn, probably 40 quarts of green beans, 25 quarts of tomatoes, and maybe 40 pints of squash. It was a good year.

And from here, the next thing on the calendar is our church's annual pig roast this coming Saturday. We are praying the rain will hold off long enough for Trey to ride the train and take a hayride. Pictures to come...
