Revelations of Spring
Our snowy Monday is now a distant memory, with today being an absolutely gorgeous day with temps in the 70s. The advent of warm weather tends to remind me of things I'm sure I knew at some point, but seem to have forgotten in the cold:
- Your kid grew during the winter. While we're decent on mid-summer weather clothes, Trey is lacking in the season-transition, OK to get dirty department. And he has no play shoes that fit. We went outside today with him wearing shoes he grew out of last fall and a 9-12 month size outfit. So sorry baby! Looks like we're headed to Once Upon a Child soon.
- Your windows are filthy. Yeah. I would rather mop the driveway than clean windows. And ours are gross. I did wipe down the insides of them today. And that was when I realized that after our New Year's furnace explosion soot extravaganza, we neglected to clean soot off the windows. Nice.
Sometimes I miss my OCD clean freak self, who has gradually disappeared with marriage and parenthood. She would never have let that happen.
- You're tired of being in your house. Don't get me wrong, I love my house. But nothing compares to fresh air. Even better to have fresh air in your house - gotta get my open-windows fix now before the pollen sets in!
- It is no longer acceptable to have Christmas decorations out and justify them as 'wintry'. It happens every year. Undecorating makes you regret ever decorating in the first place. But we do it anyway. So I spent Trey's naptime today putting away the substantial amount of holiday decor I still had out. That's kinda sad. In a week or so we'll be putting out the Easter baskets!
- You never did get around to cleaning out your flower beds last fall. We'll have to chalk it up to forgetfulness. And bless those little bulbs' hearts, they are still pushing up through all the leaves and muck, staying strong for me. I need to schedule some quality time with a rake.
So spring is looking busy, but I'm so glad it's here! And Trey is too - he had a much better experience playing outside without snow on the ground. He can do so many new things now that he couldn't do last spring - swing, play golf with Dad, run up and down hills. And don't forget our all-time favorite activity, throwing dirt!
