Did you remember?

Today is/was an important day for Christians around the world. It represents the day when Christ died, not just for us, but for everyone. This was an act of love that is unmatched in the history of the world. Sometimes I feel that we (myself included) look past today to focus on Sunday and the celebration of the resurrection. Not that Sunday is not important, but what about Good Friday?

Christ is a comforter. When we are struggling in life or having problem that cause us to have great concern, He can be the only thing that calms us. Why is this? One is obviously the unmeasurable power of God. The other, however, had to do with today. Christ lived his entire life with the realization of how it was going to end. He had to deal with this fact in His day-to-day life. This could surely be unsettling. He understands when we are distressed, because he has been there too.

Christ is concern. Even while on the cross, He took care of His family. He made arrangements for John to take care of His Mother Mary. At that point, most people would have been only concerned with what they were going through, but He thought of others. If Christ showed this concern in death, how much concern will He have for our lives. I have thought from time to time that God doesn't care about a certain thing in my life. This is obviously not true. He is concerned with every aspect of my life, although His perspective may differ from mine. I should not hesitate to take even what my be the "smallest" things to him in prayer to seek His council and guidance.

Christ is forgiveness. As He was on the cross, he asked God to forgive the people that were in the process of torturing and abusing him until he died. Even as it was happening, He asked for their forgiveness. If He can forgive these people that were killing Him, how much is He willing to forgive me? There have been times in my life where I have felt like Christ should not forgive me, but He doesn't operate that way. Praise God for that.

Christ is love. He did this for me and He did this for you. This action was completely voluntary. At any point, Christ could have called the whole deal off. He had angels at the ready if He wanted to end the suffering. Even with this backing, He chose to go through with it. Can you believe it?

I hope that you have taken time to remember today what Christ did for the world. If you did not, I'm sure He will forgive you and understand. Just take time whenever you read this and thank Him for all that He has done.
